CALLING…DID YOU HEAR IT?

Our own little world…

In the hospital this morning, it was a very different world! A world of surgeons, nurses and anesthesiologists busy at work. New life was being birthed into this world behind one door while someone else just left this world behind another door. There are people totally helpless, unconscious as their life and the quality of their future is in the hands of someone with a needle, knife or hi-tech equipment. How many lives are affected by those in there for care or those in there giving care?

Three hours later, it’s back to my friend’s home! The sun is shining, she is mowing the lawn, her husband is at work, the country home is warm, and the verandah beckons. What a welcoming and beautiful place to be! Life in this little world is well. Later the three of us sit down to a tasty ham supper accompanied by a delicious couscous dish, beans from their garden last year and salad. A happy world of contentment, so far removed from the world of hours earlier!

It’s still warm and light – a gorgeous evening! Nature calls me! I start out for a walk up the country road. I see nature is calling more than me! The birds are being called to sing, the bullfrogs have been called to awaken from hibernation, and the Canada Geese have been called back to the north. Some are being called to mate and nest. I notice the new little foal and newly birthed lambs. As I pass the trees and pastures, the smell is heaven’s-aromatherapy. The freshness of growth and new life permeates the air. New buds and leaves are being called forth! Mmmm…. I stand there and breathe in life! What a wonderful world! A world away from hours earlier!

I come home, get a cup of tea and sign on to Facebook. The virtual world is a world of variety. Friends and family. Good news and bad news. Events and people from far and near. Interesting tidbits, irrelevant information or the latest post of the day!

Amid the worlds I travelled through today, I am so grateful that nature called and I answered! There’s something about getting away from the busy-ness, the demands, the responsibilities, the noise, the news and all the other voices calling for our time and attention! It took a while when I first came here to the country to see the beauty of the bare fields and trees that actually brim with life. Beyond the dust and gravel on the road are vast horizons of the sky, the sun setting and the abundance of life. I’ve learned to answer nature’s call – to tune out some of the cares of life and tune in to being care-free. To hear the whistling of the wind and the symphony of sound as chirps and tweets meld together in song. To enjoy the playfulness of the horses galloping and be enthralled by it all.

Of all the worlds and voices calling you today, stop and listen to nature calling you, to God calling you and to your spirit calling! Tune out from some of those worlds you travel through. Tune into God’s world. Take a break! Get refreshed! Connect with simplicity, beauty, with your own heart and God’s voice!

What is there for you to hear or see? Do you need to stop or rest? Do you need to awaken to something or go somewhere? Tune in and answer! Be Blessed!
