Knowledge is Power!
Knowledge from questions, experiences, observations, mistakes and conversations -written or verbal – in our life can transform into power.
Knowledge – Know what is working for you !
Do you want to maintain and repeat success? Know what is working for you! Know what makes it work! The results you are experiencing tell you what works and what doesn’t – for yourself and others. Work with what works! “What” is making something work well? This knowledge eliminates frustration, stress and wasted time. It’s that simple! It helps you make decisions that create a significant difference in results. What one thing or area has an employee become proficient at? What worked for them to get there is a strategy you want to tap into. Keep using it to maintain present success and reach maximum ability and productivity. Knowledge and gratitude for what works is key to keep and increase success.
For the person who learns visually, watching or having word-pictures is effective.
For the person who learns best audibly, spoken words and conversation are effective.
For the person who learns best through reading, manuals are effective.
For the person who learns through doing and repetition, time and opportunity is necessary.
One person cannot do everything, all the time, everywhere. Utilize the strengths of each person by delegating them to help, assist or teach others. If you don’t have time to repeat things, then a reference chart, flow chart or list might do. The questions are: “What works?” and “How can you make it work with what and who you have? “
Knowledge – Know what doesn’t work!
The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing, saying the same thing and thinking the same thing but expecting different results! Frustration is a message!
Stop doing what doesn’t work. What is not working well? What do you keep hearing? It will be a clue to the answer. What one thing could you adjust that would make a difference? Changing one word can change atmosphere, motivation and results. For instance: “Hurry” implies rush, panic and no time to think which cultivates mistakes and disasters. “Quick” implies thoughtful, strategic, controlled management of time which cultivates efficiency and productivity. The destiny of words is in the content of the words. Major stress is created when we don’t deal with what works, and we keep doing what doesn’t work. If something is not working, what part of doing it more is going to work? Stop doing what doesn’t work. Knowledge helps you change what “is” to what you want it to be. You want results!
Elements of Business
Product and People. There will be no product without people. You are a “people”. The equipment and tools have been made by people and are operated and maintained by people. Deliveries are going to be made by people. The car doesn’t drive itself neither does the plane. Email didn’t invent itself, and it also has to be maintained in different aspects by people. People are your suppliers, staff, clients and manufacturers of possessions you own. There is no such thing as a self-made millionaire. It involved other people’s money, time, effort and life in some way, shape or form. Having knowledge about people is beneficial. Knowledge about people is power.
Perception & Communication – The Banana
One person pictures a yellow banana; another pictures a green one.
One person pictures the rotten banana peel they slipped on.
One person pictures a big banana; another pictures a small one.
One person pictures a bunch hanging on a tree, another sees them in the produce aisle.
The zookeeper pictures monkeys and bananas.
A cook may picture banana-cream pie or banana cake.
When I think of Jamaica, fried-plantain comes to mind – and banana chips for snack.
A kinesthetic person recalls the feelings about a banana split they had on a summer date.
A person allergic to bananas is not going to have good associations with that word period.
Perception filters what we say and what we hear. Clarify to eliminate misunderstanding.
Translation – The Banana
So…..you ask for someone to get you a banana:
Someone will take one out of the bowl on the table.
Someone will go to their freezer.
Someone will go to the store or maybe their cupboard.
In certain countries some will just go to the tree and pick one. That’s fresh!!! Know that to each of these individuals, what they have done is “common sense” to them because that is their reality. Common means what is common or normal to them. There’s no such thing as common sense to all of us – we are all too different. It is clear from these perspectives that saying what you mean and meaning what you say isn’t as clear to others as you might think
Perception & Communication – Men and Women
Remember knowledge is power. We think on different sides of the brain. Our physiology is different. “Men are Like Waffles and Women are like Spaghetti” clearly illustrates, men have the ability to be focused to the exclusion of anything else. They organize their life, time and space into compartments. Not so for women. Every part of life is intertwined consistently.
How does this effect what works in perception, communication, productivity and relationships?
So back to questions we go. What works and what will it take to make communication work? What is missing? What would make a difference? If you have a piece of equipment not working, how do you handle it? Does kicking it or getting angry make it work? How about telling it how you feel ? Does feeling justified or giving expression to your frustration make it work? Does getting upset at the key not working in the lock help open the lock, or is making the decision to get the right key more effective? Would these strategies, choices and reactions be any more effective with employee or production issues that aren’t working? I think not!
Think about anger for a minute. Anger for the most part is ineffective, destructive and toxic. It destroys. It may feel like power because it is a “strong” feeling. However, if you recognize anger is actually “a message” it can have an element of power and effectiveness. It is a message to you that something you are thinking, saying, feeling, believing, expecting or doing is not working. Destruction tears down and takes away. A fire quickly destroys what has taken years to build and leaves nothing. Real power builds, adds to, enhances and brings value.
Solutions are not as far away as you think. Questions are the answer. *In the quality of the questions you ask, will be the quality of the answers you get and the quality of the life you live.
