Who’s that?
Is that you?
I had the delightful experience this morning of coming across Holley Gerth, her books and website. What a great Monday morning ray of sunshine she is. Just what I needed.
She’s so gracious, sweet and inspiring! What a combination!
It crosses my mind that sometimes I’m not as sweet as that. In fact sometimes I might be like salt. Salt in a wound isn’t a bad thing because it can clean some stuff out so there can be healing, but it’s a little bit more straight forward and to the point, if you know what I mean! Salt is often an ingredient called to enhance any flavor of cookies, cakes, veggies or steaks!
I realized as much as there are people who we so admire, love to be around and love even how we feel when we are around them, we do not need to feel like we need to 1. Be Them. 2. Be Like Them.
Holley brings inspiration through her graciousness and sweet spirit, as do some others I know – especially in our church. In fact I had thought about calling Connie one day to ask exactly how one manages such graciousness in ministry, because sometimes these people amaze me.
However, if I’m salt, then God bringing these folks into my life is one way God adds sweetness into my life. When we need to sweeten the cake, we don’t turn the flour into sugar. No! The flour is still flour. We add sugar. If the cake is too liquid in texture, we add flour. We don’t turn the liquid into flour. We add what it needs. If the ingredients in the cake need to be “brought out a bit more”, here I come with the salt. It enhances and brings out what is already in there. It’s a different way of inspiring people, encouraging them to be fully who God has called them to be.
So my dear friends, here is to BEING YOU FULLY in all God is calling you to be – whether you are the salt, the flour or the sugar.
For you men out there who can’t relate – well just consider the truck. You might see others who are like motor oil and things are just “smooth” when they are around. There are some like the engine who are the main machine to get things going, but just know that no matter how fine the engine or the oil, no one is going anywhere without the gas. Now gas is interesting. It is fuel, but it’s always contained. It is structured through being contained. Gas not contained goes all over the place and is no good for anything. If it is all over your garage floor, all over your pants, all over anything, it’s useless and wasted. But when it’s contained, in the right place at the right time – watch out! It enables movement, drive and accomplishment. That’s a different kind of inspiration and encouragement. Then there are nuts. Well, the nuts hold things together. The bolts hold things down, ground things and hold things together in the rough places. They hold things steady.
So my dear friends, here’s to BEING YOU! Fully and completely more how God has created you and is calling you to be – YOU! I’m so thankful for those like YOU who bring into my life the things I am not. Those who add richly to my life and experience. Those who add to my life to make it complete – completely wonderful! I’m grateful to God for just the right mix in my life. Too much of any ingredient can ruin the cake. In mechanical designs, there is room for only exactly what is needed for efficiency and great results.
Many blessings. Have a great week celebrating YOU! What YOU bring to OTHERS and what OTHERS bring to YOU!
